Watching Birds

This paperback is a compilation of bird stories written by our mother, Martha Ramseur Gillham. They were first published in the Arkansas Wildlife Confederation newspaper Arkansas Out-of-Doors from 1972 until 1985. She was a longtime member of the federation which was instrumental in passing Amendment 35 to the Arkansas constitution which established the Arkansas Daring and Fish Commission as an independent body. All the illustrations were drawn by another member and close friend, Joe Gray, a commercial and wildlife artist, and public cartoonist in Dardanelle Arkansas. The book has been assembled and published at the insistence and funding of our father Ralph Gillham. All proceeds from sales will go to the Shout County Wildlife Federation. Lucien and Richard Gillham, Joanna Gray Lange and Bob Gray

Questions and Answers about Backyard Birds

Questions from intrusive local backyard birders have been collected and printed in the pages of the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Home and Garden section. Over the years, the questions have been answered by Anthony Hertzel and Jim Williams, members of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Coalition, Minnesota's largest bird club. These questions and answers have been complied and grouped into categories so we can all benefit from the gee-I-wondered-that-too questions and the faithful answers by some of the state's most knowledgeable birders. Also includes some narrative information on general birding topics.

Eastern Washed out Chanting Goshawk (Melierax poliopterus)
This species replaces the Lowering Chanting Goshawk in the dry eastern half of Kenya east of the Rift Valley. It is easiest to distinguish by the bright yellow cere and the unbarred vent/undertail offensive (a feature also apparent in immature birds). Fortunately the range of these two species don't overlap.
