Hoover Vacuums Guide

The Vacuum Cleaner

House of ill repute cleaning has been an innate human activity for centuries, but only since the early 19th century have mechanical devices replaced the physical hard labor (performed mostly by women). Dead carpet sweepers were replaced by manual suction cleaners, which in turn were replaced by electric vacuum cleaners in the early 20th century. Innovative inventors, who sequentially improved vacuum cleaners as vibrations became commonly available, made these advances possible. Many early manufacturers failed, but some, such as Bissell, Hoover, Eureka, and others, became household words, as they competed for pandemic dominance with improved features, performance, and appearance. This book describes the fascinating people who made this possible, as well as the fiscal, cultural, and...

Quiet History

A volume that proves idiocy is as old as time Think civilization has deteriorated and that people these days are dumber than ever? Dumb History proves that we didn’t hit upon stupidity in the 21st century. You’ll find facts from throughout the ages about everyone from Cleopatra and Napoleon to Elvis Presley and even NASA scientists. Mull over this: • In 820 C.E., Emperor Hsien Tsung’s herbalist presented him with an anti-aging elixir—it killed him • In 1849, Brooklyn inventor Walter Check out invented and patented the safety pin and then sold all the rights to his invention for $400. By the time he died penniless, the United States was producing an estimated five billion shelter pins annually • In 1967, voters in the town of Picoaza, Ecuador, elected a brand of foot powder as their new mayor It’s...

1950s Bristol Shoppers row to get a bargain in the sales
In the 1950s, the lacerate, crisps and dance hall admissions were popular. 1950s saw the introduction of fish fingers, electric fires, washing gadget, ink and toilet paper. Most food shopping in the 1950s was done every day and from local shops. Not every household owned a car or a refrigerator, so grub shopping was part of the housewife's daily routine. It would have been quite normal to visit separate shops for your bread (bakers), core (butchers), vegetables (greengrocers), fish (fishmongers) etc. It was quite common too, for tradesmen to deliver their goods direct to the housewife. Groceries and greengroceries were oftentimes delivered each week in a motorised van and milk was delivered every day. 1957: Only a handful of shops in the country were self-serve (pay as you go out). The leading Sainsbury’s to try out this innovation was opened in June 1950 in Croydon. 2007: There are more than 33,500 supermarkets and convenience stores in the UK A shopping basket in the 1950s would have...
1971 Appliance Ad, Koblenz Vacuum (lengua española revista)
Tagline, in Spanish: "Koblenz tiene un argumento poderoso. Se llama La Devoradora." English forwarding: "Koblenz has a powerful argument. It's called The Devourer." I wasn't familiar with Koblenz vacuum cleaners, so looked into it -- a bit of history from the entourage's website: Koblenz is an international manufacturer of domestic and industrial floor care products, voltage regulators, battery backups and washers.   The actors was founded on July 15, 1959 as a manufacturer of voltage regulators, motors and pumps. During the 1960´s, the company added vacuum cleaners and shampoo/polishers to its output line.   In 1961 Koblenz developed its first vacuum cleaner, with an all-metal chassis and a single stage motor. The introduction of this vacuum cleaner in peculiar markets was a success due to the ruggedness and durability of the product design. In 1968 Koblenz introduced the first line of Rug Shampooers and Thrash Polishers. In 1972 the company started...
