It is ironic that those whose job it is to save lives often find themselves injured in the course of performing their duties. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare workers have higher injury rates than agriculture workers, miners, and construction workers. The Handbook of Modern Hospital Safety, Second Edition covers exposure paradigms and offers solutions and models of protection for these individuals, presenting the latest science and intervention strategies that have proven successful in the scientific community. Extensively revised, this second edition explores a host of hazardous conditions that are faced by healthcare workers in today’s hospitals, including: infection and infectious diseases back injuries needlesticks workplace violence slip, trip, and...
I feel sometimes like I live in a Fish tank. Not just because of all the people who walk past our house and like to look in our windows, or the kids that insist on climbing the tree next to our garden fence (there’s no point having a 6 foot fence when they can all see over it). Mostly it’s... We have a water and sand table in the garden. It became a watery sand table very quickly. Then it had leaves in it and I outed the sand, hosed it down and decided it would be a good water table instead of having a pool or two sections of soggy sand. Cue wet sleeves, soggy fronts and very soggy shoes by my 4 yr old. Her older sister (who is 5 going on 15) seems to think it’s funny to encourage her sister into mischief and then complain when it backfires and she doesn’t get any sympathy. Anyway, besides the watery sand table we have a hose pipe. Our neighbours are on holiday for 5 weeks and we have been watering their veg and flowers so they don’t die. We’ve also used the hose pipe to wash the cars. I have some very amusing footage of my darling 5 yr old making rainbows and spraying her sister with water “accidentally” in the face. The dripping wet children get stripped and dried and clothed and then the soggy mess of clothes goes in the washing machine. I’ve stopped wearing socks in the house without shoes on. It’s not really doing my feet any good but it’s too hot to wear slippers and I’m so tired of walking in to get a drink or sort the kids out and getting soggy socks from the dishwasher being... I’m sure for anyone who has a dishwasher (that doesn’t have dry dishes OCD) this is not a new concept. The bit that bugs me is that their are trails of water all over the kitchen floor so it doesn’t seem to matter which “safe route” you take, you still end up with the inevitability of soggy socks. I’ve been married for Almost 16 years, We’ve had a dishwasher for 13 of those. My kitchen floor is always going to be wet. It’s one of those things where I can’t grumble about it because I’m grateful he does it. I wonder if they’ve invented waterproof socks yet (and I don’t mean those horrible Varruca socks you got for swimming pools). Oh the fun, not just wet socks but the weird soapy lake that seems to be ever present round the vanity unit and the constant dripping tap that I only ever notice once I am sat mid wee with no way of turning it off. I have learnt not to say that id like to poo in peace. I had to stop nagging my 5 yr old about how I’d like just once to be able to poo in peace when she repeated it to someone in public and it sounded like “mummy just wants to poo and piss” – that’s not the worst thing she’s said about my toileting... I think when we do our bathroom we will make sure there are no lake-worthy vanity units around the sink. I’m also not sure how we manage to have puddles of water from the toilet, which aren’t pee OR the puddles of water that go from the sink to the hand towel. I think the non-pee toilet puddles must be when she’s mid hand wash and remembers she hasn’t flushed the chain. Amidst all these puddles of water there’s a 4 yr old who is obsessed with water and will gladly soak her sleeves in her sisters bath whilst adding any number of non-waterproof items like story books, clothes, etc. She even put her sister V-Tech kitten toy in the water table outside one day, though we managed to dry it out and by some miracle it still works.
