This report is about my first couple of months on a Fashion and Textile degree course, how I have develop an understanding of what to expect of me for delivering the best work, time keeping, taking notes making sure I’m focus. The first time when I arrived at Colchester Institute was very taunting, only because I did not know what to expect. Once I was introduced to the course Tutor’s I had a good feeling about attending the Institute, positive warm feeling and also that they are very hands on and very relaxed, making us as students feel comfortable of asking question when we do not... When I did my research about the Institute, gave me a clear window of coming here because of the good reputation the Institute has in the developing of the students achieving really good grades and the link to the fashion industry. How one student get chosen to go and work alongside Paul Smith who is based in London. When applying at so many universities and going for interviews was very scary. Was excepted to two well know Cambridge universities I chose Colchester over them only because I would beable to study Fashion and Textile and not just one or the other. This was a positive for me to except on the spot when I came for my interview. Being able to work on industrail sewing machines and being taught the right skills, Tutor and Technician always their to help is such a great feeling. Having the opportunity to create pattern design and than to construct garments is just great, enjoy both Fashion and Textile. Learning new technics every week from studio work to print making is just fresh and inspiring. Finishing my first year on a positive and knowing what to expect in my second year. Making inquiries about what is available in the retail industry. Not loosing focus on my course Medium term objective. Keep on developing at home, experimenting with what I have at home Following up on potential employers, getting my CV out to the right people Having the right balance between univercity, work, family life and children Long term objective. Setting up my own clothes line, tailor made garments bespoke garments Keep reminding myself of the reason I started my degree to become a succesful tailor. Achieving exceptional grades to be proud of Having met a well respected Textile designer Paul Vogel was an amazing feeling. We met just by off change in a coffee shop local to me. Spoke about what I was going at the moment and was offered to come and see him at the studio. This has not put me off one bit because I know how busy they are. Having friends that know friends in the fashion industry is also a bonus. I got given an email to send my CV to the design company that does river island clothing for an internship for the summer. Very passionate about my surroundings and being able to create prints and garment construction Being skilledfull and knowledgeble of my Fashion and Textile degree Achieving the highest degree through keeping the focus What do I like doing. Cutting patterns and reshaping them, using my innovative ideas Learning new technics when putting a garments together Enjoying the different process of print, materials, inks and natural objects What am I good at. Being present at every lesson... Taking challenges Reading more fashion magazine, colums, exchibition Asking for help with writting Practising Photoshop What mite stop me. Children and family Working Not keeping focus on my goals What is my ultimate goal. Becoming a bespokes tailor Going for what I want and achieving it Working behind the fashion shows ie, London, Milan, New York Would like to start in my second year of being more productive, creating clothing outside university time. This will give me the right attitude to achieve my unltimate goals and to approached the right company’s to do work experience with, I always believe if you do not ask you.
